You Can’t Be Manipulated When Your Peace Isn’t Up For Grabs

The holiday season can feel overwhelming. Everyone expects you to be cheerful, giving and ‘on’ all the time. Family, friends, work pressures and social commitments can pull you in every direction, but you can’t be manipulated when your peace isn’t up for grabs.

This concept is deeply rooted in Carl Jung’s work and applies directly to navigating burnout, emotional overwhelm and self-doubt. By learning to surrender to your inner truth, you reclaim your energy, confidence and clarity.

Jung explains why we feel stuck in old patterns or controlled by other people’s expectations. He taught…

What you resist, controls you. What you avoid, persists. What you accept, transforms.

Surrender doesn’t mean giving up. It means leaning into reality, acknowledging your feelings and releasing the need to control everything, especially during stressful times like the holidays. Jung described the psyche as two parts in conflict…

The Ego: the part that tries to control your life…

Panics under pressure.

Chases validation or love.

Overspends to cope with discomfort.

Avoids uncomfortable truths.

Clings to old patterns.

The Shadow / Unconscious: the part holding ignored truths…

Stores childhood wounds.

Holds limiting beliefs.

Creates repeating patterns.

Runs automatic behaviours.

Healing happens when the ego stops fighting the shadow and starts listening. This is the true essence of surrender. The moment you stop fighting yourself, you regain power.

When you surrender your nervous system softens, repeating patterns become visible, you stop overthinking and performing, you start choosing consciously and you reclaim your energy and peace. It’s the foundation for self-trust, emotional regulation and renewed confidence.

How Surrender Changes Your Life

Overspending & Emotional Regulation...

Overspending often masks discomfort, fear or loneliness. Surrender here means being willing to feel your emotions and understand what they need, rather than covering them with shopping or distraction. This shift reduces impulse behaviour and strengthens self-trust.

Attachment Patterns...

If you’ve struggled with romantic attachment, your ego may cling to fantasies like, ‘if I get THIS love, I’ll finally feel secure.’ Surrender says 'I see the story. I see the wound. I witness my feelings without chasing them.’ This is the path to healthy relationships and emotional independence.

Confidence...

True confidence comes from letting go of performance. Surrender allows you to drop the mask, walk in as your authentic self and radiate grounded energy.

Confidence isn’t forced; it’s created by inner peace and self-trust.

Rewriting Your Story...

You can’t rewrite your story while resisting it. Surrender says, 'this is the story I learned, now I choose another.’ This is how personal growth and transformation happen.

When you stop reacting from unconscious wounds, you stop being a puppet. This is individuation, the process of becoming whole, grounded and free from others’ expectations.

The holidays can test your patience, energy, and boundaries. By practicing surrender you stop overcommitting, regulate your emotions, reduce stress and anxiety and reclaim your confidence and joy.

When you stop fighting your inner world and external pressures, you reclaim your power and that is how you protect your peace, your energy and your life.

About Me

Today I wake up feeling clear, steady and actually excited about the day ahead. But when perimenopause hit I felt overwhelmed, exhausted and full of self-doubt. I know how it feels when confidence disappears, anxiety takes over and you wonder where you went.

That’s why I do this work. Hypnotherapy, self-hypnosis and breathwork changed everything for me, not just in how I think, but in how I feel every day.

Now, as a certified Hypnotherapist, Counsellor and Breathwork Practitioner, I have spent years helping midlife women do the same.
